18 May

The Rally Adventure
General
The Rally Adventure will have teams reaching into their own imagination, thinking on their feet and working towards a common goal. They will drive through a chapter of Scotland’s history visiting unusual locations and attractions as they endeavour to work out a myriad of clues, visit a range of check points and perform and number of hilarious tasks.
Start Point
The start point would be at the Dalmahoy Hotel where would be briefed before setting off for the day.
Teams
The party of 90 would be divided into five teams of 18. Each team would be supplied with 3 vehicles (either a people carrier, 4x4 or Land Rover, depending on availability), with a driver.
Lunch
A packed lunch will be issued to the group, after their second activity.
Communication
All teams/cars will have a mobile phone to alert event control of any safety or navigational problems they might experience between check points. All staffed check points will be linked by two way radios or mobile phones. Mobile phones to be provided by the client or we can provide them at an additional charge.
Team Issue
Each team/car will be issued with the following:
- Mobile phone - client to supply
- Packed Lunch
- Polaroid Camera with a ten shot instant film.
- Road Map of area (A3 photocopy)
- 1:50,000 OS map of area (colour photocopy)
- Instructions and clues
- Clipboard with pad of paper and pencil
Clues & RV’s
The event will hinge around a series of five main rendevous points or RV’s. At each RV, a team must perform a task in order to recover the clue which will then lead them onto the next task and so on until all five have been completed.
Supplementary Tasks
Between moving to and from the RV’s, there will be plenty of time for teams to perform and complete supplementary tasks. These are not compulsory but every one successfully completed will be rewarded by a set number of points from which the event will be scored. These supplementary tasks may be categorised as follows:
1. Questions
2. Scavenge Hunt
3. Photo Opportunity
There are more supplementary tasks available for completion than there is time and so teams must carefully choose which ones to complete and which ones to ignore. This choice will be driven by a combination of the location of the task and the points available for it.
Format & Timings
There will be five RV’s. Each of the groups will start on a different RV rotating through all five over the course of the day with each team completing alternate RV’s every 75 minutes. RV’s will take a maximum of 40 minutes to complete leaving 35 minutes to perform supplementary tasks and travel to the next RV. Times for one of the groups would be:
0930 Introduction, team issue, briefing
1000 Start Rally
1030 1st RV
1145 2nd RV
1300 3rd RV

Full day activities
The Venue - The Sma Glen
Glen Conyachen, one of the magnificent glens off the Sma’ Glen, offers a spectacular scenic location for an afternoon event. With superb terrain and woodlands for these type of activities, and the beautiful River Almond running past, it really does offer a taste of the rugged highlands of Scotland. The activity area we would use was also used as a location in the film, “Chariots of Fire” for a highland games scene.
General
On arrival at the Sma Glen, the group will be greeted by the event manager and introduced to the days activities, over coffee and biscuits.
Format
The clients will be divided into two teams of 45. One group will be taken to Stanley for white water river rafting and the other will be transferred to the Sma Glen.
Lunch
A 40 x 20, framed marquee, with a wooden floor will be sited at Sma Glen, with round tables and samsonite chairs, serving a two course BBQ lunch.

0930 Arrive, welcome, introduction.
1000 Start activities
1300 Retire for lunch
1400 Start afternoon activities
1700 Return to the event marquee, results, prizes
1730 Conclude, depart

The Activities
Session One - Highland Games
Professional Heavies - Participation
The heavies will introduce the teams to a variety of traditional heavy events which may include hammer, weight for height, cabre, and putt the stane. After a short demonstration, teams members will have a go all be it with lighter equipment! Two heavies.
Fun Field Events
Some light hearted fun field events run by our kilted instructors with team members all trying their hand at a combination of four field events including haggis hurling, welly chucking, shot put and cabre tossing. Two instructors.
Whisky Tasting & Still
This unique stand’s central feature is the UK’s only legal mobile still. Specially licensed by Customs & Excise for the day, a spirit will actually be distilled during the event which can be nosed and tasted. The team will be introduced whisky tasting with an explanation of just some of the differences in the main whisky producing regions. Participants will taste for themselves the differences with a variety of malts and a fun tasting competition to conclude. One instructor.
Scottish Country Dancing Workshop
Accompanied by a two piece Scottish Country Dance Band, and ‘Caller’, the team will be introduced to the delights of Scottish Country Dancing with a step by step guide to a popular dance. This hilarious stand will culminate with the team performing the dance from start to finish!
Bag Piping
The team will spend half the session bag piping and half the session playing: Our resident expert will delight the participants with a short lecture on the history of piping, bag pipe making and the different styles and types of pipes found throughout the world. He will then play some popular tunes with team members given an opportunity to ‘blow’ a note or two themselves under the pipers concerned eye! One piper.
Tug of War
The mighty battle as two teams pit their strengths (and weakness) against one another. Pulling the rope in the opposite direction from the competition certainly makes a point, especially when it is best out of three!
Session Two - Rafting
White Water Rafting - Stanley
River running is virtually as old as civilisation itself, but rafting and kayaking as recreation activities are relatively new. These pleasures are complemented by an even greater thrill - running through powerful, fast flowing rapids. Our group will be kitted out for their morning/afternoon session and given proper instruction on how to maneouvre round the river rapids.
Competition
The event will be run as a fun competition with scores being awarded and recorded for team and individual performances. At the end of the event, results will be announced and some cheerful prizes presented.
When guests arrive back at their hotel this afternoon another surprise awaits them in their rooms - full highland dress outfits for the gentlemen and tartan sashes for the ladies to wear to their farewell gala dinner this evening. This will take the form of a traditonal Scottish banquet at either The Royal College of Physicians or the City Chambers.
The Royal College of Physicians
The present building which was completed in the mid 19th century is situated in Queen Street in Edinburgh’s New Town and combines the elegance of the Georgian era with Victorian grandeur.
Guests are greeted on arrival by a kilted piper, they then climb the staircase to the Beautiful Library before proceeding to the Great Hall for dinner.
The evening can be rendered very special,by introducing entertainment:
- the famous address to the haggis! As everyone knows Haggis is one of our national dishes, immortalised in the words of our national bard, Robert Burns, who wrote a famous poem in its honour. On occasions such as this it is customary for the haggis, carried aloft by the chef to be piped into the room and for someone to recite Burns’ verses.
The poem is full of actions and very humorous.
We would suggest soft background music during dinner and a display of highland dancing towards the end of the meal.
The City Chambers
This splendid building is Edinburgh City Council’s legislative headquarters, dating from the 18th century situated in the heart of the city’s historic Old Town
Guests enter through a courtyard from the Royal Mile where they are welcomed by a piper in traditional costume. They then ascend to the European room on the first floor which has wonderful murals depicting scenes from Scottish history, for pre-dinner drinks. This room is decorated with paintings depicting the history of the city. Guests then proceed to the grand Council Chamber, an impressive room with marvelous views across the city and the distant hills of Fife, visible across the Firth of Forth.

And a truly magnificent culmination to the evening is the Ceremony of Beating Retreat performed by a full pipe band in regimental uniform marching up and down in the courtyard below.
